Andrew Shantz - piano, Hindustani vocal, songwriting

vms Co-Founder and Faculty member Andrew Shantz has taught and performed music for over 15 years.

Graduating in 2003 from the prestigious William Paterson University jazz program with a degree in piano performance, Andrew has performed widely and developed a distinctive sound and approach to piano and vocal improvisation. Since 2008 Andrew has been immersed in the world of Hindustani classical music, traveling three times to Kolkata, India to study and maintaining his studies in the US with Pt. Sanjoy Banerjee of the Kirana classical vocal lineage.

"My approach to teaching is to move steadily through the beginning phase so students have a solid base that will serve them for years to come. When a student learns something thoroughly, it stays with them long after they may have stopped lessons. My goal is for my students to always remember the things they learn and to make music for the rest of their lives."
